The Accidental Long Weekend
The Lulu Edit
WATCHING
I went into Margo’s Got Money Troubles fully prepared to hate it. OnlyFans storyline on Apple TV+, with everyone online saying “it’s actually really good,” which usually means it’s overhyped.
I could not stop watching.
Elle Fanning plays Margo, who is broke, pregnant, making questionable decisions, and somehow still incredibly likable the entire time. Nicole Kidman is there. Nick Offerman is there. And Michelle Pfeiffer plays Margo’s mother, a former Hooters waitress now working in management at Bloomingdale’s. Incredible casting.
Also, Michelle Pfeiffer at 68? Ridiculous. She looks incredible.
The show was created by David E. Kelley, who also happens to be Michelle Pfeiffer’s husband. They’ve been married for 32 years and this is the first time they’ve ever worked together professionally. I don’t know why I find that so interesting, but I really do.
The finale just dropped, so if tomorrow winds up being fully rained out, you now have plans.
WEARING
The weather may be disappointing, but I’m still getting dressed.
This is my ideal cold-and-cloudy long-weekend outfit: wide-leg light-wash jeans, a white linen button-down with the sleeves rolled up, a tan suede belt, and my Birkenstock Buckley clogs. Just not a sweats weekend for me.
Also, these jeans are unbelievably comfortable. Soft enough that I already know I am going to live in them all summer!

BEAUTY
This is me, last Tuesday, lying in bed with an Omnilux red light mask on my face looking completely insane.
I’ve been using it consistently for about three months now and I really do think it works. My skin looks brighter, smoother, and more even overall.
But honestly? The part I may like most is the forced ten minutes of doing absolutely nothing.
A long weekend that suddenly slows down a little is probably the perfect time to finally do all the things you swear you never have time for.
TABLE
HOT HONEY BBQ CHICKEN SLIDERS
The kind of thing you make for a group and then accidentally eat three of while standing in the kitchen.
For the chicken:
2 lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp onion powder
Salt + pepper
1 cup good BBQ sauce
2 tbsp hot honey
For the sliders:
1 package Hawaiian rolls or brioche slider buns
Dill pickle chips
Sharp cheddar slices (optional but encouraged)
Butter for brushing tops
Quick ranch slaw:
2 cups shredded cabbage or coleslaw mix
2 tbsp mayo
1 tbsp ranch dressing
Squeeze of lemon
Salt + pepper
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 400°.
Toss chicken thighs with olive oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Roast for about 25 minutes until cooked through and slightly caramelized on the edges.
Shred the chicken with two forks and toss with BBQ sauce and hot honey. If you want it extra sticky, return it to the oven for another 5 minutes.
Mix together the slaw ingredients in a bowl.
Slice slider buns in half. Add chicken, cheddar if using, pickle chips, and slaw.
Brush tops lightly with melted butter and warm in the oven for 5 minutes until glossy and slightly toasted.
Serve with: kettle chips, corn salad, spicy margaritas, and denial about the weather.
Optional upgrade: add crispy fried onions on top, and suddenly, people think you learned this from a chef instead of the internet at night.
PERSONAL NOTE
I had a whole Memorial Day weekend planned. You probably did too.
Instead, it’s cold, cloudy, everyone keeps checking the weather app every 14 minutes like it’s suddenly going to reveal Saint-Tropez, and somehow I’ve been at a friend’s house for less than 24 hours and already fully shifted into accidental cozy weekend mode.
And honestly? It’s kind of nice.
There’s something about an unexpectedly slow weekend that forces you to stop trying so hard to optimize every second of your life. Nobody’s rushing to the beach. Nobody’s pretending they “just threw something together.”
I also cannot stop thinking about Michelle Pfeiffer and David E. Kelley. They’ve been married for 32 years. He’s one of the most prolific creators in television. She’s, well, Michelle Pfeiffer. And this is the first time they’ve ever worked together professionally. Somehow, I love that they waited for the right thing.
In a world where everyone feels pressure to do everything immediately, I find that weirdly comforting. Maybe not everything needs to happen right away. Maybe some things are actually better when the timing is right.
Anyway. If tomorrow turns into a washout, at least you have sliders now.
Happy Memorial Day. 🤍
See you next Saturday!
