Six Outfits, One Long Weekend on Nantucket
I leave for Nantucket in a few days. July 4th on the island is its own thing, somewhere between a fireworks show and a very well-dressed one. Not the trying-too-hard kind. The Nantucket kind.
The style here has always felt relaxed. White denim, navy sweaters, woven totes, and dresses that somehow work everywhere from lunch to sunset cocktails. Of course, effortless usually requires a little planning.
This issue is six outfits, a few of my favorite spots, and what’s actually going in the suitcase. No overthinking, just the real list.

THE ARRIVAL
Arrival Day on Nantucket
Fresh off the ferry and ready to explore. Easy layers, comfortable separates, and a look that works from lunch in town to a sunset stroll by the harbor.

Nantucket dinner, done right.I packed exactly one outfit that feels a little extra, and this is it. Timeless gingham, elevated accessories, and a look that goes from golden hour to candlelight without you having to think about it twice.

SUNSET COCKTAILS ON NANTUCKET
This is the outfit I’d wear if someone said “harbor, six o’clock” and nothing else. Equal parts polished and effortless, perfect for cocktails by the water and dinner under the stars, no outfit change required in between.

LOBSTER ROLLS & FIREWORKS
A classic combination of red, white, and navy that feels right at home for Nantucket in July. This is the one I’ll actually be wearing on the 4th, built for lobster bakes, boat parades, and firework finales, in that order.

Sun, sand, and sea, everything you need for a day by the water.

I went into this edit with a plan: navy, white, a little red. Classic. Understated. Very Nantucket.
Then I looked at what actually made the suitcase.
There is rope detailing. There is a lobster clutch. There is a cardigan with an anchor on it. I appear to have purchased enough gold nautical hardware to outfit a small yacht.
The official theme of this trip is somewhere between “coastal grandmother” and “attends a regatta.”
No regrets.

STAY
White Elephant
Harborfront, walkable to everything, and the kind of property that makes “I’ll just pop back to the room” an actual option between the beach and dinner.
Eat (dinner)
Galley Beach
Toes in the sand dining with sunset views that work whether you’re under a tent or open sky. Book the second you land. They only take reservations by phone, two weeks out.
The Nautilus
Global small plates and craft cocktails in a buzzy downtown room. Goes fast, so don’t sleep on this one either.
The Pearl
Creative cocktails and inventive Asian inspired seafood, including a wok-fried lobster worth planning dinner around.
Company of the Cauldron
Intimate, candlelit, one nightly menu. The closest thing on the island to a dinner party you didn’t have to host. The Veggie Lasagna may be the best thing on the menu. No joke (it’s not on the menu - its the vegetarian option)
Lola 41
Elevated dishes and a sushi bar in a chic bistro setting, plus a cocktail list worth lingering over.
Cru
Waterfront tables, a raw bar, and the best seat on the island for sunset drinks before dinner.
Bar Yoshi
Innovative Japanese and Asian inspired cuisine right on the marina. Order the sushi, stay for the view.
Millie’s
Baja-style plates and front row sunset seats in Madaket. Go for the view, stay for the margarita.
Straight Wharf
Classic, right on the harbor, the kind of spot that never goes out of style.
Eat (lunch):
Lemon Press
Organic, cold pressed juices and wholesome breakfast options that turn into easy lunch plates by midday.
Something Natural
The sandwich every local swears by. Grab one, take it to the beach.
Hear Live Music
The Club Car
A retrofitted railway car turned piano bar, somehow exactly as charming as that sounds.
The Muse, The Chicken Box, and Summer House
Pick your volume level and go from there.
Cisco Brewers
Craft beer, live music, and rotating food trucks in a high energy outdoor setting. Best done by bike, best ended by sunset.
Sweet Ending
The Juice Bar
The ice cream everyone’s in line for, and the line is correct to exist.

A NOTE
This will be my first July 4th on Nantucket, even though it’s not my first trip there. I know the island. I haven't seen it like this yet: the parade, the fireworks over the harbor, and the energy that comes with a holiday weekend on a small island.. Now I get to see it for myself.
Six outfits, a list of restaurants I already know and love, and absolutely no plan for what happens if it rains on the 4th. We’ll find out together.
